The suspect arrested in connection with a burglary investigation and officer involved shooting is 26-year-old Sarah Michelle Brown.

The 26-year-old suspect involved in a burglary and an officer-involved shooting on Thursday, March 8, 2018, has been released from an area hospital and lodged in the Multnomah County Jail. Sarah Michelle Brown was lodged at the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Attempt Aggravated Murder, two counts of Burglary in the First Degree, Unlawful Entry into a Motor Vehicle and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

The officers involved in the shooting will remain on paid administrative leave, as is standard procedure, until the conclusion of the investigation.

Because this matter remains under investigation, no additional information regarding this case will be released pending a review by a grand jury, which is tentatively scheduled in the next one to two weeks.

The Portland Police Bureau's investigation into a burglary and officer involved shooting Thursday morning continues.

The suspect remains at an area hospital receiving treatment for her injuries. Upon the suspect's release from the hospital (to be determined by medical personnel), investigators expect she will be lodged at the Multnomah County Jail. The suspect's identity and charges will be provided after she is placed in the custody of the jail.

During the on scene investigation Thursday morning investigators located a handgun. The handgun was seized as evidence.

No additional information is expected to be released in this investigation until the suspect is released from the hospital and is booked into the Multnomah County Jail.

Members of the Portland Police Bureau Detective Division's Homicide Detail continue to investigate an incident involving a suspected burglar and an officer-involved shooting in Portland's Goose Hollow Neighborhood early Thursday morning.

The burglary suspect injured in the shooting remains in a Portland hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect is an adult female. For investigative reasons, her name is not being released at this time.

The two Portland Police Bureau members involved in the shooting are Officer Joseph Webber, a 13-year-veteran of the Bureau, and Officer Darrell Shaw, a 24-year-veteran of the Bureau. The officers will remain on paid administrative leave, per Bureau policy, until the completion of the investigation and Grand Jury.

The suspect involved in an early morning burglary investigation has been taken into custody.

On Thursday, March 8, 2018, at 3:25 a.m., officers responded to the 800 block of Southwest King Avenue on the report of a burglary in progress. When officers arrived in the area, they searched for the suspect with the assistance of a canine team. When officers located the suspect there was an exchange of gunfire.

Members of the Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) responded to the scene. Negotiators with CNT negotiated with the suspect and members of SERT took the suspect into custody.

After the suspect was taken into custody she was assessed by on scene emergency medical personnel and transported to the hospital by ambulance for what is believed to be a non-life-threatening injury.

West Burnside Street will be re-opened shortly. Southwest King Avenue south of West Burnside Street will remain closed for the majority of the day as this investigation continues. Area residents no longer need to shelter in place.

"I am grateful no officers were injured during this morning's dangerous encounter," said Chief Outlaw. "Officers responded and worked together to ensure the safety of the community. As with all incidents of this nature there will be a robust and thorough investigation and review."

Portland Police Homicide Detectives, assisted by the Multnomah County Major Crimes Team are continuing the investigation into this shooting.

The investigation is in its early stages and additional information will be released as the investigation continues.

The identity of the suspect will be released at a later time. The involved officers' identities will be released on Friday. The involved officers will remain on paid administrative leave, per Bureau policy, until the completion of the investigation and Grand Jury or completion of the criminal case.

Following the Grand Jury, the Bureau will release additional information as is standard practice. The officer will interviewed by investigators within 48 hours.

As part of the use of force review process, the Bureau will conduct an internal review of the entire incident and the case will go before the Police Review Board (PRB), which is comprised of community members, Bureau members and representatives from the Independent Police Review Division.

Roadways near the 800 block of Southwest King Avenue are closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

The PIO is responding to the scene. All responding media should stage at the southwest corner of West Burnside Street and Northwest 23rd Avenue .
