UPDATE #2: Suspect Arrested During Wednesday Evening Tactical Incident Identified (Photo) - 02/15/18

The suspect that was taken into custody by members of the Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) on Wednesday evening has been identified as 28-year-old David Sanders.

Sanders was lodged at the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Felon in Possession of a Firearm (two counts), Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (two counts), Possession of an Illegal Weapon, Possession of a Loaded Weapon (two counts), Attempt to Elude by Vehicle (three counts), Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle (three counts), Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle (three counts), Fail to Perform the Duty of a Driver - Property Damage, Reckless Driving (three counts), Identity Theft (three counts), Identity Theft (two counts), Forgery in the First Degree, Provide False Information to a Peace Officer, Reckless Endangering, Interfere with a Peace Officer (two counts), Attempt to Elude on Foot, as well as additional charges.

The wanted suspect that officers observed entering a residence in the 5900 block of Northeast 12th Avenue has been taken into custody.

Officers established a perimeter around the residence and members of the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) attempted multiple methods to communicate with the suspect for approximately three and one half hours in an attempt to get the suspect to surrender.

Members of the Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) took the suspect into custody.

Roadways in the area will reopen in the next thirty minutes.

The shelter in place order for the residents in the 5900 block of Northeast 12th Avenue has been removed.

The suspect's name and charges will be released once he is lodged in the Multnomah County Jail. Updates will provided during the morning of Thursday, February 15, 2018.

On Wednesday, February 14, 2018, at 5:20 p.m., Gang Enforcement Team officers observed a wanted subject enter a residence in the 5900 block of Northeast 12th Avenue.

Officers with the Portland Police Bureau Tactical Operation Division's Gang Enforcement Team requested North Precinct officers respond to assist in contacting the wanted subject that entered the house. The subject is believed to be inside the residence and has not exited the location after officers have provided directions to come outside.

Based on the warrant information and past criminal behavior of the wanted suspect, a supervisor at the location has requested assistance from specially trained officers to respond. Members of the Portland Police Bureau's Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) were called to the location to assist with contacting and arresting the wanted suspect.

Officers have formed a perimeter around the house and there does not appear to be a danger to the community. However, houses directly next to the house occupied by the wanted suspects may be evacuated for their safety.

Traffic will be closed on Northeast Ainsworth Street from Northeast 11th Avenue and Northeast 13th Avenue. Northeast 12th Avenue will be closed from Northeast Holman Street to Northeast Jarrett Street during this police investigation.

The Public Information Officer is responding. Interested media should respond to Northeast 10th Avenue and Northeast Ainsworth Street.
