###ORIGINAL MESSAGE BELOW###

On Sunday, February 11, 2018, at 12:37 a.m., East Precinct officers responded to the report of a two vehicle crash at the intersection of Southeast 122nd Avenue and Southeast Stark Street.

Officers and emergency medical personnel arrived on scene and located a white Chrysler PT Cruiser and dark grey Jeep Grand Cherokee that had been involved in a crash. Emergency medical personnel determined the adult male driver and only occupant of the Chrysler PT Cruiser was deceased. The adult male driver and only occupant of the Jeep Grand Cherokee was transported to an area hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.

Based on preliminary information learned in this investigation, investigators believe the driver of the PT Cruiser traveled northbound on Southeast 122nd Avenue at a high rate of speed. The driver of the PT Cruiser entered the intersection against a red light at the time of the crash. The driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee traveled westbound on Southeast Stark Street and proceeded across Southeast 122nd Avenue at the direction of a green light at the time of the crash.

The Portland Police Bureau Major Crash Team responded to the crash scene and investigated this crash. Criminalists with the Forensic Evidence Division and a member of the Oregon State Medical Examiner's Officer responded to the scene.

Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in this fatal traffic crash.

The identity of the deceased person will be identified after the Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office has completed an autopsy and the deceased's next of kin have been notified.

The intersection at Southeast Stark Street and Southeast 122nd Avenue were closed for several hours during this investigation.

This is the fourth traffic crash related fatality investigated by the Major Crash Team in 2018.
