UPDATE #3: Victim Identified in Sunday Evening Homicide Investigation (Photo) - 01/22/18

The deceased victim of a shooting that occurred Sunday evening near Southwest 4th Avenue and Southwest Stark Street has been identified as 30-year-old Ellante Davone Williams of Portland. The Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office determined Williams died of homicidal violence as a result of a gunshot injury.

The suspect taken into custody in connection to a death investigation that occurred Sunday evening near Southwest Stark Street and Southwest 4th Avenue is 24-year-old Aaron Drake Birt not Aaron Drake Brit.

The Police Bureau regrets this mistake.

The victim found injured after officers responded to the report of gunfire at the intersection of Southwest 4th Avenue and Southwest Stark Street on Sunday evening has died of injuries sustained during the incident. The adult male victim's identity and cause of death will be released after a member of the Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office performs an autopsy. The autopsy is scheduled for Monday, January 22, 2018.

The suspect that was taken into custody near Southwest 3rd Avenue and Southwest Morrison Street in connection to this investigation has been identified as 24-year-old Aaron Birt. Birt was lodged at the Multnomah County Jail on one charge of Murder, a parole violation for a previous conviction of Robbery in the Second Degree and a United States Marshals Service Hold.

Investigators with the Portland Police Bureau Detective Division's Homicide Detail continue an investigation near the intersection of Southwest Stark Street and Southwest 4th Avenue.

Central Precinct officers arrived at the crime scene at approximately 5:40 p.m. and located an adult male victim inside a vehicle parked at the intersection of Southwest Stark Street and Southwest 4th Avenue. Emergency medical personnel responded to the victim's location and transported him by ambulance to an area hospital. The victim is in critical condition.

During the initial investigation, officers have detained one person thought to be involved in this incident. The suspect was contacted and taken into custody near Southwest 3rd Avenue and Southwest Morrison Street without incident.

Officers canvassed the area and located evidence of gunfire near the vehicle in which the victim was located.

The area near this crime scene will remain closed to pedestrian and vehicle traffic for the next three to four hours.

Investigators do not believe there is an immediate danger to the public based on information learned at this time in the investigation.

On Sunday, January 21, 2018, at 5:37 p.m., Central Precinct officers responded to the report of gunfire near the intersection of Southwest 4th Avenue and Southwest Stark Street.

Initial information suggests officers responded to the report of gunfire after a witness contacted 9-1-1. When officers arrived at the location they located an injured person. The injured person was transported to an area hospital by ambulance. The victim is receiving medical treatment and is believed to be in critical condition.

Members from the Portland Police Bureau Detective Division's Homicide Detail and Forensic Evidence Division, and Multnomah County District Attorney's Office are responding to the scene to assist with this investigation.

Vehicle and pedestrian traffic will be closed on Southwest 4th Avenue between Southwest Washington Street and Southwest Pine Street.

Interested media should respond to the southwest corner of Southwest 4th Avenue and Southwest Washington Street. The Public Information Officer (PIO) is responding to the location, ETA 45 minutes.
