Crime Stoppers Tip Leads to Arrest of Murder Suspect in Northwest Portland (Photo) - 12/14/17

On Thursday December 14, 2017, Portland Police Bureau Central Precinct officers arrested a wanted murder suspect after an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers of Oregon led police to find the suspect in Northwest Portland.

The suspect, 30-year-old Tyler Wayne Nees, was arrested near Northwest 23rd Avenue and Lovejoy Street. After the arrest, officers discovered Nees was in possession of a realistic-looking replica firearm in his waistband.

Nees was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Murder and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. Nees is also being held on a charge of Possession of Methamphetamine (felony) and a parole violation. Nees will be arraigned on Friday in Multnomah County Court.

This investigation started on Saturday December 2, 2017, at 1:55 a.m., when East Precinct officers responded to the report of a stabbing in the area of Southeast 72nd Avenue and Woodstock Street.

Officers and medical personnel arrived in the area and located the victim, 64-year-old Brian Nees, suffering from traumatic injuries. Brian Nees was transported by ambulance to a Portland hospital for treatment. Brian Nees died several hours later as a result of his injuries.

Homicide detectives investigating the case determined that Tyler Nees, Brian's son, was the suspect in the homicide and obtained an arrest warrant several hours after the initial call to 9-1-1.
