News Release
Gang Enforcement Team Investigates Saturday Morning Shooting in Downtown - No Injuries - 12/09/17

On Saturday, December 9, 2017, at 8:27 a.m., Central Precinct officers responded to the report of gunfire in front of Nike Portland, located at 638 Southwest 5th Avenue.

When officers arrived in the area, they contacted a large group of people that were waiting to enter Nike Portland. Based on preliminary information, officers believe a newer red Toyota Camry was driven in front of Nike Portland, when an occupant of the Camry fired a gun into the air. Shortly after the occupant of the Camry fired the gun, multiple people that were waiting to enter the store ran in multiple directions.

According to witnesses, one of the people that ran from the crowd chased after the red Camry. When that man arrived near the intersection of Southwest 4th Avenue and Southwest Washington Street, he fired multiple rounds from a handgun in the direction of the Camry.

Officers searched the area and have not located the red Camry or the occupants of the Camry. The suspect that fired multiple rounds in the direction of the Camry has not been located either. At this time no people with injuries have been located or have arrived at Portland hospitals as a result of this shooting.

As officers canvassed the area, they located evidence of gunfire, including multiple bullet strikes to a building near the intersection of Southwest 4th Avenue and Southwest Washington Street.

Based on information learned during the investigation, the Gang Enforcement Team responded to the location and assisted with the investigation.

Anyone with information, including surveillance footage, regarding this shooting should contact the Portland Police Bureau Tactical Operations Division's Gang Enforcement Team at 503-823-4106.
