News Release
Suspect Arrested for Manufacturing Drugs near a School (Photo) - 12/07/17

During the early morning hours of Thursday, December 7, 2017, members of the Portland Police Bureau Tactical Operations Division's Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) served search warrants at two residences: the first was located in the 7000 block of Northeast 8th Avenue and the second in the 6900 block of North Interstate Avenue.

While serving the warrants, investigators located and seized as evidence, cocaine, cash that is believed to be the proceeds of the sale of illegal drugs, and weapon-related items. Officers arrested 47-year-old Gregory M. Brown during the warrant at the residence in the 7000 block of Northeast 8th Avenue.

Brown was lodged in the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Manufacture of Cocaine within 1000 feet of a School, Manufacture of Cocaine, Delivery of Cocaine within 1000 feet of a School, Delivery of Cocaine, and Possession of Cocaine (felony level).

The investigation into both locations was led by the Metropolitan Gang Taskforce (MGTF). MGTF is comprised of Portland Police Bureau members and agents assigned to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

MGTF began investigating both residences after members of the community contacted police with concerns about possible criminal and drug activity. One of the incidents occurred on April 22, 2017, at 3:30 a.m., when the Police Bureau's Gang Enforcement Team investigated a shooting that occurred in front of the residence in the 7000 block of Northeast 8th Avenue. As officers investigated the shooting, they learned a home across the street from the location was struck by gunfire. No one was injured in the shooting and investigators believed the house that was struck by gunfire was not the intended target of the shooting.

During the investigation, investigators learned both residences were rented by Brown.

The investigation continued through the cooperation of community members and law enforcement partners, including the PPB Gang Enforcement Team and Gun Taskforce, agents with the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms and Homeland Security Investigations, the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office, and the United States Attorney's Office. Investigators requested warrants for both residents based on information learned during the investigation.

Anyone with information about Brown should contact Officer Colby Panter at 503-823-4106 or Colby.Panter@portlandoregon.gov
