Officers Respond and Arrest Suspect After Overnight Shooting in Old Town/ Chinatown - One Person Injured (Photo) - 11/18/17

On Saturday November 18, 2017, at 1:26 a.m., Central Precinct officers assigned to the Entertainment Detail were in the area of Northwest 4th Avenue and Northwest Couch Street when they heard multiple gunshots.

Officers contacted multiple witnesses who confirmed there was a shooting. The witnesses provided officers with critical information about what had occurred, the shooter's description, and his last known location. This information was broadcast to responding officers. Officers located a subject matching the suspect's description near the intersection of Southwest 4th Avenue and Southwest Ankeny Street. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

As officers continued to investigate the shooting, they canvassed the area near the original shooting location and where the suspect was taken into custody. Officers located and seized evidence of gunfire at the original crime scene. Officers also located a firearm near Southwest 5th Avenue and Southwest Ankeny Street.

While officers continued to investigate the shooting, an adult male arrived at a nearby hospital with what was believed to be a serious but non-life-threatening gunshot injury. Based on information learned at the hospital by responding officers, the victim at the hospital was believed to be injured while in the area of Northwest 4th Avenue and Northwest Couch Street.

Officers worked with the hospital security department and learned the victim had been transported to the hospital by a private vehicle. Officers and hospital security personnel located the vehicle believed to have transported the victim to the hospital in a nearby parking lot. The vehicle had multiple bullet strikes.

Based on information learned during the investigation, the Gang Enforcement Team responded to the location and assisted with the investigation.

Criminalists with the Forensic Evidence Division also responded and processed the original crime scene at Northwest 4th Avenue and Northwest Couch Street, the location where the gun was located, the vehicle that was used to transport the victim to the hospital, and documented the victim's injuries.

Based on information learned at this point in the investigation, it is believed the suspect shot at the victim, while the victim was in a vehicle near Northwest Couch Street and Northwest 4th Avenue.

The suspect, 24-year-old Alejandro R. Vance, was lodged at the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Attempt Aggravated Murder, Assault in the Second Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Felon in Possession of a Weapon, and a post prison violation for a previous conviction of Attempt Assault in the Second Degree.
