On Friday November 17, 2017, Portland Police Bureau Homicide detectives booked 54-year-old Shawn Kevin McGinnis into jail in connection with the November 10 shooting death of 52-year-old Robert Lee Kaiser.
McGinnis was lodged at the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Murder, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. He'll be arraigned on Monday.
This investigation started on Friday November 10, 2017, at approximately 11:07 p.m., when East Precinct officers were dispatched to a residence in the 8100 block of Southeast Glenwood Street on the report of gunfire that occurred approximately 15 minutes prior to the 9-1-1 call.
Officers arrived in the area and located Kaiser deceased near a residence. Homicide detectives responded to the scene and began an investigation into Kaiser's death. The Oregon State Medical Examiner determined that Kaiser died of homicidal violence as a result of a gunshot.
During the investigation, detectives developed probable cause to arrest McGinnis in connection with the death and secured a warrant for his arrest.
In the morning hours of Monday November 13, the United States Marshals Service Oregon Fugitive Task Force arrested McGinnis at a residence in the 300 block of Southeast 45th Avenue.
After his arrest, detectives learned McGinnis had a pre-existing injury that required medical attention. McGinnis was transported to an area hospital where he received medical treatment and was released on Friday morning to be booked into jail.
