Junction City Sex Offender Captured Due To Efforts Of Alert Citizen - 03/17/22
On Wednesday, March 17th, 2022, at about 6:36 PM (not 24-hours after our news release) Danny Miner, an attentive clerk at Jackson’s Food Stores, was sure 54-year-old Garen Daniel Thies, a non-compliant Level 3 Sex Offender, was behind his store attempting to jump-start his vehicle. Miner, whose store is located near the intersection of 7th and Van Buren Streets in Eugene, had seen a news release issued by Junction City Police and aired in a KEZI news report earlier in the day.
The press release indicated Thies was frequenting the area of Junction City Schools and was wanted for questioning in those incidents. Miner contacted Junction City Police Dispatch and advised of the circumstances. Eugene Police was requested to detain Thies until Junction City Officers arrived less than 20 minutes later. After a brief interview, Junction City Officers took Thies into custody without incident and lodged him at the Lane County Adult Correctional Facility on three (3) counts of “Unlawfully being in a location where children regularly congregate,” one (1) count each of “Failure to report as sex offender” and “Criminal Trespass II”.
We want to thank Mr. Miner for his attention and quick thinking. Likewise, we want to extend a sincere thank you to KEZI and all the media outlets for there support, as always, for swift, accurate, and responsible reporting. Further, we want to express our gratitude to the many citizens who also responded by phoning in their information on various sightings of Thies. Lastly, we want to recognize our law enforcement partners – Eugene Police Department and the Linn County Sheriff’s office – for helping keep our city safe.
