UPDATE -
The Explosive Ordinance Technicians arrived at about 12:30 PM, X-rayed the device and did not believe it contained a detonator cap. For safety, they secured the device in a safe manner, took possession of the device and will be destroying it. St. Vinnie’s and all of the surrounding streets have been re-opened.
We want to thank community members for assisting us by staying clear of the area for the duration of this incident.

At about 11:15 AM this morning, February 12, 2022, staff of the Junction City St. Vinnie’s reported they found what appears to be a functional hand grenade inside a box of other items donated by an unidentified person. The building has been evacuated and the streets bordering the building have been closed. Explosive Ordinance Technicians from the Eugene Police Department are enroute and have an ETA of approximately 12:40 PM.
The streets impacted by the closure are 3rd and 4th Ave. west of Hwy 99, and Juniper Street St. between 3rd and 4th Ave. Citizens are requested to stay out of the area for the duration of this incident.
