Junction City Cooling Centers Available For Those In Need - 06/25/21

With record-breaking temperatures predicted for the Junction City area over the June 26-27, 2021 weekend, the Junction City Police Department has teamed with the Junction City Ministerial Association to operate two cooling centers for those in need.  Scorching temperatures bring a host of life-threatening problems for both people and animals.

Both King’s Grace Church and Junction City Baptist Church have graciously agreed to open their facilities to enable people to get into a safe, air-conditioned environment.  Both facilities will operate from 1:00 PM until midnight on both Saturday and Sunday.  Cool refreshments and snacks will be available.  The addresses and phone numbers for the facilities are:

King’s Grace Church
48 E. 18th Ave.
Junction City, OR 97448
541-954-1220

Junction City First Baptist Church
28957 W. 18th Ave.
Junction City, OR 97448
541-998-8211

Anyone without the ability to maintain a safe body temperature is encouraged to partake in these services.  Pets are welcome too, but for safety reasons, MUST BE confined to a hard-surfaced or wire-framed kennel.

The following three websites provide information imperative to helping protect humans and animals from suffering during high heat conditions. It is important that people learn what the warning signs of heat-related medical conditions are and to immediately call 911 if they are experiencing any such symptoms.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) states, “High temperatures kill hundreds of people every year. Heat-related deaths and illness are preventable, yet more than 700 people die from extreme heat every year in the United States.”

The American Red Cross (ARC) states, “Extreme heat is the most dangerous type of severe-weather event in the U.S., but we can take action to prepare our loved ones and communities for extreme heat events and related power outages.
