News Release
Tuesday Morning Sutherlin Incident Not as Reported - 10/15/19

SUTHERLIN, Ore. - On Tuesday, October 15, 2019, at 7:45 am, Douglas County 9-1-1 Dispatchers received a report of a vehicle that was in the ditch in the 200-block of Fort McKay Road in Sutherlin. Dispatchers were told by the reporting party that the female associated with the car was shooting out of the window of the car.

Law enforcement from the Sheriff’s Office, Sutherlin Police Department and Oregon State Police were dispatched to the scene.

When Officers from Sutherlin Police Department arrived, the female driver was briefly detained. It was quickly determined the female had not fired any shots and the sound the caller was hearing were vineyard cannons intended to keep birds away from the vineyard. No actual shots had been fired.

The female driver had turned too soon and accidentally missed the driveway and was not injured. No citations or arrests were made.
