Douglas County Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics (Photo) - 07/09/18

The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics is scheduled to run through Douglas County on Thursday, July 12 to recognize, support and honor our local Special Olympic Athletes. 

The Douglas County leg of the Torch Run begins with the Myrtle Creek Police Department at 7 AM at the intersection of Cherry/Old North Pacific HWY in Myrtle Creek. The torch will be relayed along Old HWY 99 carried by and then handed off to Winston Police, Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Roseburg Police, Oregon State Police and Sutherlin Police. The relay route will end in Oakland, Oregon. The entire route is approximately 39 miles. 

Please note there may be occasional impacts to traffic along the route during this time.

This year there will be a special all day event in honor of our local athletes. The Festival of Achievement - Day of Celebration will take place at Riverbend Park in Winston from 9 AM - 9 PM. 

Local law enforcement personnel from throughout Douglas County, will have a meet and greet with the local athletes at Riverbend Park at approximately 9:15 AM as everyone cheers on Winston Police Department Torch runners who will be running with the torch at this time. 

Media and the public is invited to support law enforcement and athletes throughout the entire event. 

The Timeline is as follows:

LAW ENFORCEMENT TORCH RELAY TIMELINE (estimated times)

  • 7 AM Start - Myrtle Creek Police Department begins at Cherry/North Pacific Hwy
  • 8:20 AM – Myrtle Creek PD hands off to Winston PD at Quick Stop Market - 6453 NE Dole Rd
  • 9:15 AM – Special Olympic Athletes/LE Officers Meet and Greet  - Riverbend Park, Winston
  • 9:30 AM – Winston PD Continues on Route with athletes and any other officers who wish to join in.
  • 9:45 AM – Winston PD hands off to Douglas County Sheriff's Office at Pepsi Road
  • 10:45 AM – Douglas County SO hands off to Roseburg PD at Southgate area of Roseburg
  • 11:55 AM – Roseburg PD hands off to Oregon State Police at Roseburg OSP Office
  • 12:45 PM – Oregon State Police hands off to Sutherlin PD at Crown Homes - 1710 S Calapooia St, Sutherlin
  • 1:30 PM – Douglas County Torch Run is completed in Oakland, Oregon.
