The Central Oregon Drug Enforcement team recently completed a short-term drug investigation into 38-year-old La Pine resident Danielle Renee Hood. During the course of that investigation, officers learned that Hood was traveling to the Portland area to obtain fentanyl and bringing the drug back to Deschutes County for distribution.

At approximately 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, CODE conducted a traffic stop on a 2015 gray Kia Sportage in the area of NW Cherry Lane and U.S. Highway 26 in Madras. Zachary Steven Simmons, a 30-year-old La Pine resident, was driving, while Hood was the passenger.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s drug detection K9 Keira responded to the traffic stop and alerted to the odor of drugs in the vehicle. CODE detectives applied for and were granted a search warrant to search the vehicle. During the subsequent vehicle search, detectives located more than 50 grams of fentanyl powder and a small amount of methamphetamine. Detectives also located drug ledgers and packaging material consistent with the distribution of drugs.

Hood and Simmons were arrested on suspicion of possession and distribution of fentanyl, as well as possession of methamphetamine, and were lodged at the Jefferson County Jail.

CODE detectives were assisted by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police during this investigation.
