FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Date: August 20, 2024

Released by: Sergeant Kent Vander Kamp

Bend, OR –

A Bend man is facing charges related to the trafficking and possession of controlled substances after the Central Oregon Drug Enforcement Team concluded a short-term investigation with a traffic stop on the north side of Bend.

On August 20th, 2024, around 2:30 PM the Central Oregon Drug Enforcement Team concluded a short-term investigation and surveillance operation with the arrest of Rory Camacho, age 54, of Bend, Oregon.

Drug agents were in the area of Third Street and Mervin Samples Rd when they noticed a suspicious vehicle in a parking lot conducting what appeared to be drug transactions. Agents recognized Mr. Comacho from previous drug investigations.

Following the brief surveillance operation, CODE Detectives, in collaboration with the Bend Police Department, intercepted Mr. Camacho while parked in a Chrysler Pacifica, a nearby storage unit complex on Sherman Rd, in Bend.

CODE narcotics detection K9 “Bonnie” was deployed and signaled her handler to the presence of a controlled substance within the Chrysler and the storage unit he was parked in front of. Drug agents applied for and were granted a search warrant by a Circuit Court Judge for the car and storage unit.

After a subsequent search of Mr. Camacho’s car and storage unit, a commercial quantity of methamphetamine was found, in addition, he had a double-edged “switch-blade” knife.

Mr. Camacho was lodged in the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Jail with the following charges.

Unlawful Possession and Attempted Distribution of Methamphetamine

Felon in Possession of a Dangerous Weapon

Criminal complaints contain only charges; defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
