Investigations And Search Warrant Result In Recovered Property And Two Arrests For Multiple Burglaries In Yamhill County (Photo) - 08/06/20

On May 14, 2020 about 6:00 am Deputy Jacob Rex took a report of an extensive burglary of a commercial building located in the 100 block of W. Main Street in the city of Yamhill.  The building was entered, and a substantial amount of property was stolen including multiple chainsaws, firearms, and a fully restored 1958 Chevrolet Pickup.  The value of the stolen property exceeded $50,000.  The Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the public in locating the stolen pickup and property which resulted in a number of tips and reports of possible sightings of the truck from as far away as Southern California.  Video evidence from a neighboring business provided some investigative leads.

Also, on May 14, 2020 Deputy Jaime Cerda took a report of a burglary of an industrial storage container belonging to Portland & Western Railroad located near Oregon Vineyard Supply on St. Joseph Rd in rural McMinnville.  Specialty tools were taken, and again, video evidence from a neighboring business provided investigative leads.

On May 15, 2020 an alert county resident reported seeing a truck they believed to be the stolen 1958 Chevrolet pickup parked at the McBride Cemetery in rural Carlton.  Deputies Claire Cannetti and Rich Broyles responded and recovered the stolen pickup, returning it to the owner.  On May 26, 2020 Deputy Jacob Rex took another report of a theft of specialty tools belonging to McMinnville Water and Light.  The tools were taken from Mac Water and Light trucks at a power substation located along Hwy 18 in rural McMinnville.  The stolen tools were somewhat unique to utility work and not common tools.

Through investigation and information sharing between the responding patrol deputies and detectives with the Crime Response Team (CRT) Detective Jacob Herr authored and was granted a search warrant for a property located in the 17000 block of NE Geelan Rd in rural Yamhill.  During the execution of the search warrant on May 30, stolen property from the burglary in the city of Yamhill, the Portland & Western railroad storage facility, and Mac Water and Light trucks was recovered.  Additionally, user amounts of both methamphetamine and heroin were seized.

Two adult males were identified as the suspects in these cases.  On June 3, 2020 the first suspect, Riley Martin, age 27, of rural Yamhill was arrested and lodged in the Yamhill County Jail for multiple charges stemming from all these cases including:  Aggravated Theft 1st Degree, Theft 1st Degree, Burglary 2nd Degree, Criminal Trespass 2nd Degree, Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree, Unlawful Use of a Vehicle, Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine, Unlawful Possession of Heroin, and Unlawful Entry into a Motor Vehicle.  The booking bail amount was $65,000.

The second suspect was located and arrested on August 4, 2020.  He is identified as Brock Keinonen, age 32, of Carlton.  Mr. Keinonen was located and arrested at the McBride Cemetery on warrant stemming from a grand jury review of these cases resulting in an arrest warrant being issued.  He was lodged in the Yamhill County Jail on the warrant.

The Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the residents and businesses who assisted with these investigations by providing tips and video surveillance, and the Yamhill Police Department for their assistance.
