Garfield Elementary School Builds A Stronger Home-To-School Connection With Home Visits To All Students On Aug 14 -08/09/23

I wanted to inform you of a unique “back to school” family engagement strategy occurring at Garfield Elementary School on Monday, August 14 (FYI: the first day of school for the Yakima School District is Tuesday, August 22).

From Principal Brownlow:

Our entire staff plans to drive throughout the City of Yakima on Monday, August 14th, from approximately 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM to visit the home of every Garfield student.  This activity aims to strengthen our relationships with our students and families with this "Welcome Back" approach.  Each child will receive a drawstring bag with a school-themed bracelet, a school pencil, a handbook, a welcome back newsletter, and ever-famous “Smarties” candy!  

Last year was the first year we used this approach, and it was hugely successful based on the comments and smiles from students, families, and our staff.  We are excited to do it again this year.
