News Release
YSD Returns Many Schools to In-Person Learning on Tues, Jan 25 - 01/21/22

On January 13, 2022, it was announced that the Yakama school district would shift to remote learning for five school days. The set date for a return to in-person learning was January 25. This is still the case for the majority of schools in the district; however, given the ongoing staffing shortage, eight of YSD's 25 schools are not able to return to in-person learning at this time.

While all other schools in the Yakima School District will be learning in-person, the following middle schools and elementary schools will remain in remote learning through Friday, January 28, 2022:

Hoover Elementary School

McKinley Elementary School

Robertson Elementary School*

Roosevelt Elementary School*

Franklin Middle School

Lewis and Clark Middle School*

Washington Middle School*

Wilson Middle School*

*some self-contained special education classrooms will remain in-person. See www.YSD7.org/RemoteLearning for classroom-specific details.

Meals will be available to students learning remotely. Using this online form, families can pre-order a four-pack of meals (4 breakfasts and four lunches). Pick-up is at four locations: Hoover, Franklin, Lewis & Clark, and Washington from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm on Wednesday, January 26. More details are included on the form.

While the District is experiencing staffing shortages in many positions, areas of extreme need are most directly impacting food service workers, bus drivers, and nursing staff. The impact of positive Omicron cases and the required isolation by those diagnosed exacerbated the staff shortage.

The eight schools that will remain in remote learning through January 28, 2022, will return to in-person learning the following Monday, January 31, 2022. If staffing shortages continue beyond the 28th, then other schools may be impacted. We are committed to keeping students learning, and these temporary shifts are necessary to ensure that all students return as soon as possible.

Students and their immediate family members may get a free rapid COVID test at the district office starting on Monday, Jan 24 to support the return to in-person learning. This testing site is for YSD families only; it is not a public testing location. Proof of your affiliation to YSD is now required. More information about testing can be found at www.YSD7.org/COVID19.
