YMCA to Establish a New Location in Fountain - 11/20/20

Fountain, CO — The YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region is proud to announce a partnership with FountainFort Carson School District 8 and the City of Fountain that will allow for new and improved facility and location for the Fountain Valley YMCA.

\The Y is renovating the former middle school gym, the Dean Fleischauer Activities Center (DFAC), a 27,196 square foot facility located in the heart of Fountain. Renovations began in October and are projected to finish in 2021. The building will include a complete healthy living center, multi-purpose rooms, an area for child watch, and locker rooms.

“The Fountain Community is growing at a rapid rate, and community services and resources are struggling to keep up with the needs and demand,” said Boyd Williams, President & CEO of the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region. “The Fountain community is facing a shortage of safe spaces for youth, and the Y is proud to be able to step in and fill that gap.”

The DFAC facility is located across the street from the largest middle school in the State of Colorado, offering the opportunity for the Y to reach the entire Fountain community, particularly youths and students.

“The opportunity for the YMCA to utilize the DFAC has the potential to enhance the lives of students and families throughout the Fountain community,” said Dr. Montina Romero, Deputy Superintendent for Fountain-Fort Carson School District Eight. “Our current partnership with the Y is grounded in the shared value of creating healthy choices for students, families and the community. It’s evident that the YMCA is vested in Fountain, and FFC8 is excited about the potential of the YMCA renovating the DFAC to enhance the quality of life in the Fountain community.”

Over 30 years ago, the YMCA began serving the Fountain community. In late 2018, the Y was notified that the current space would no longer be available beginning early 2020 due to the condition of the aging building. Through the partnership the Y has developed with FFC8 and the desire and need for the Y to stay in the Fountain community, the school district offered the Y the opportunity to renovate and lease the DFAC building.

“For over 142 years, the Y has served the Pikes Peak Region and remains committed to serving every member in our community, regardless of background, financial status, ethnicity or creed,” said Williams. “In order to continue to serve the changing needs of the Fountain community, we must ensure our facility continues to create an environment where people feel safe, welcome and supported.”
