City of Woodburn Honors Local Officers Who Died in the Line of Duty (Photo) - 12/03/16

One of the unique features of the new Woodburn I-5 interchange is the City can program the lights on the overpass to various colors and color schemes.

City Administrator Scott Derickson authorized the overpass lighting change to blue on Dec. 1 at the request of Woodburn Police Chief Jim Ferraris, to honor not only fallen officers across the country, but specifically those locally who gave the ultimate sacrifice, including Woodburn Police Captain Tom Tennant and Oregon State Sr. Trooper Bill Hakim.

"It is important that we not forget those who have died protecting our communities, and no City knows that more than Woodburn," said Chief Ferraris. "This is an appropriate honor for Capt. Tennant and Trooper Hakim, who will never be forgotten."

Agencies across the national honor fallen officers each December through Project Blue Light, which started in 1989.

The overpass lights will be blue for the entire month of December.
