News Release: Motorcyclist Dies In Fatal Crash In Woodburn -10/30/21

Saturday, October 30, 2021 - Woodburn, OR – On Saturday, October 30, at approximately 1:35 a.m., Woodburn Police received calls of a disturbance at the End Zone Bar and Grill located at 980 N. Pacific Hwy. 

Officers arrived on scene at 1:40 a.m., where witnesses reported the subject, identified as 39-year-old Oscar Martinez of Woodburn, was striking a parked vehicle with a crowbar that belonged to his ex-girlfriend. (Martinez left the scene prior to police arrival.) 

Approximately 25 minutes later, as police investigated the vandalism, Martinez returned to the scene riding a street motorcycle. Officers witnessed Martinez revving his motorcycle engine while riding in circles on the adjacent side of the highway. 

As Officers prepared to enter the roadway to signal Martinez to stop, he fled southbound on N Pacific Hwy at a high rate of speed, and within moments crashed into the rear of a vehicle also traveling southbound on the highway at Laurel Ave. 

Woodburn Officers arrived at the scene of the crash, immediately requesting medical and fire personnel to respond. Martinez did not survive his injuries, with medical personnel declaring him deceased on scene. Medical personnel transported the lone occupant of the vehicle Martinez struck to the hospital for a medical evaluation. They did not appear to have serious injuries. 

The Oregon State Police Crash Reconstruction Team and the Oregon Department of Transportation responded to the scene - OSP to conduct the crash investigation and ODOT to manage the closure of N Pacific HWY between Lincoln St. and Young St., detouring north and southbound traffic for approximately six hours. The highway reopened at approximately 8:00 a.m.
