“Wondering Jews, A Taste of Life” a series of interactive and informational programs, kicks off on October 23 with Medicare 101; the year-round program offers community information on life (and death) choices

A monthly series of free educational workshops will kick off with “Medicare 101,” 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23 in the Stampfer Chapel at Congregation Neveh Shalom, 2900 SW Peaceful Lane, Portland. of All members of the community are invited to attend, add their thoughts and have individual questions answered. Medicare can be complex and confusing and making the right choice is compounded each fall when the Annual Enrollment for Medicare (Oct. 15 – Dec. 7) heralds floods of Medicare plan promotional direct mail, compounded by television, web and new in 2020, email advertising. This 90-minute educational presentation is consumer-focused, so that individuals may define the right Medicare plan to fit individual lifestyle and budget.  The program allows time to address specific questions and will explain how to understand, access and evaluate Medicare benefits and resources. The ways that Medicare and Medicaid (OHP) work together will be detailed.

The "Taste of Life" Community Program continues with:

  • Laughter Yoga in December
  • A Good Life and a Good Death, teamed with Avoiding Prescription Drugs Interactions in January
  • How to Talk so your Health Provider will Listen (Really!) in February
  • Hamantaschen and Blessings in March
  • With Age Comes Wisdom, teamed with Health Care Self-Advocacy in April
