For the second year, WWPS fifth graders will attend overnight camp at Camp Dudley!
Walla Walla, WA. – Walla Walla Public Schools fifth graders will be packing their sleeping bags this April as they prepare to go to Outdoor School at Camp Dudley, a YMCA camp near White Pass.
Thanks to funding both from the District and Outdoor Schools WA, all fifth-grade students will get to stay overnight at camp, learning outdoors and exploring the camp’s alpine trails, forests, and lake. This is the second year Outdoor School has been made possible for Walla Walla fifth graders at no cost to families, reviving a beloved tradition from twenty-five years ago.
Camp Dudley is an American Camping Association (ACA) accredited camp that’s been in operation since 1937. The camp adheres to strict safety standards as part of its ACA accreditation with safety checks of equipment performed each morning prior to programs.
While at camp, students will take part in hands-on science lessons and natural history lessons while they enjoy hiking, canoeing, bird watching, games, arts & crafts, and exploring nature. They’ll eat in the dining hall, learn camp songs, and have a campfire and optional star gazing.
Trained and vetted Walla Walla High School students will serve as counselors at the camp, guiding the fifth graders through all of their activities. Licensed camp staff will oversee the activities and WWPS teachers, administrators, and medical personnel will provide the highest level of oversight.
