Finalists Named For Prospect Point Elementary Principal Position - 04/25/22
WALLA WALLA – Walla Walla Public Schools announces Michele Deardorff, Maia Fastabend and Christine Schumacher have been named finalists for the Prospect Point Elementary principal position. Parents, staff, community members and students are encouraged to meet the candidates Thursday, April 28 from 4 to 5 p.m. during public meet and greet sessions at the Prospect Point Library. Attendees are asked to complete candidate feedback cards and be present for all three candidate sessions (translation services will be available).
Michele Deardorff is currently the Literacy Coordinator at Union School in Juvenat, Haiti. She has served in this capacity the past 10 years overseeing the schoolwide literacy program Preschool through 12th grades, including curriculum development. Deardorff also taught third grade at Union School for three years and was a third grade teacher in Nampa, ID for three years. Deardorff holds a Master’s of Education in Reading and Bachelor of Arts in elementary education, both from Northwest Nazarene University, and is looking forward to moving back to her home state of Washington. She is fluent in Haitian Creole and is also literate in both Spanish and French.
Maia Fastabend is currently the Principal of Gib Olinger Elementary (K-3) School in Milton Freewater, OR. She has held this position the past two school years and was Gib Olinger’s Assistant Principal the previous two years. Fastabend also has eight years of experience as a middle school math teacher. She has a Continuing Administrator Licensure from Concordia University – Chicago Riverside. Fastabend earned her Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Cincinnati and a Bachelors of Arts in Education from Eastern Washington University.
Christine Schumacher is currently an Administrative Intern at the White River School District in Buckley, WA. She has been a Graphic Design Teacher at White River High School the past eight years. Schumacher also taught Business and Marketing courses at Sumner High School for eight years and Business and Marketing at Davenport High School for two years. She has a Master’s in Educational Leadership and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business and Marketing, both from Eastern Washington University.

Current Principal Barb Casey has been promoted to Director of Special Education and will begin her new position at the end of the school year. The new principal will report July 1, 2022.
