Waitsburg Superintendent Search Begins -01/06/23

WAITSBURG, WA – The Waitsburg School Board of Directors is asking community members to provide input regarding the district’s next superintendent/elementary school principal. During their special board meeting on November 29, 2022, the school board took action to select Educational Service District 123 as the search consultant.

This past fall, current Waitsburg Superintendent Mark Pickel announced his planned resignation scheduled for June 30, 2023. The search process to find a successor for Superintendent Pickel is beginning with a community survey asking Waitsburg residents to share their thoughts on the characteristics and qualifications of Waitsburg’s next superintendent/elementary school principal. The survey is available on the district’s website at www.waitsburgsd.org, and printed copies of the survey may be obtained at the school or district offices. The survey closes on Tuesday, January 10.

The superintendent vacancy announcement and job posting will be available on the ESD 123 website at www.esd123.org/employment beginning on January 13. The superintendent search timeline is scheduled as follows:

• February 24 – Application deadline
• March 13-16 – Interviews with top candidates by board, staff, and community

The School Board anticipates announcing the successful candidate no later than March 23, 2023. The selected individual will begin on July 1, 2023. 

Waitsburg community members are encouraged to complete the superintendent profile survey by January 10. Between March 13-16, the final candidates will participate in interviews with the Waitsburg school board of directors, staff, and community members. (The final date and time of the community interviews is TBD and will be communicated in the coming weeks.)
