VANCOUVER, Wash. – Jan Haaken, a filmmaker, author and emeritus professor of psychology at Portland State University, will speak at WSU Vancouver Feb. 14 as part of a spring teach-in series titled “Catastrophe in Context: The Crisis in Palestine and Israel.” Her talk runs from 2 to 3:15 p.m. in the Undergraduate Building, Room 121, as well as on Zoom. The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required at bit.ly/3HSLeq7.
Haaken has studied, written and produced films on sexual violence in personal and public life, including in war zones, since the 1980s. She has made documentary films on sexual violence in conflict zones in Afghanistan and Sierra Leone and has published extensively in such areas as psychoanalysis, feminisms, sexual abuse and trauma.
The five-part series runs through April 24. Additional events include:

April 10: Health Impacts in the West Bank and Gaza, with Patricia Kullberg, former medical director of the Multnomah County Health Department, and Lindy Eddy, professor of nursing, WSU Vancouver
April 24: Censorship and Propaganda in the Crisis, with Laurie Mercier, professor of history, and Sam Lohman, reference librarian, WSU Vancouver
