VANCOUVER, Wash. — Washington State University Vancouver has named Dan Cox, Class of 2001, as the recipient of the 2026 Notable Alumni Award, recognizing alumni whose professional achievements, leadership and service reflect the university's commitment to improving lives through education and community engagement.

Cox, a summa cum laude graduate with a bachelor's degree in business administration with a concentration in finance, serves as executive vice president and chief operating officer of Riverview Bank.

Cox is one of three siblings who attended WSU Vancouver, along with his wife, Laura, who graduated in 2000. Cox says WSU Vancouver gave him the opportunity to stay in Southwest Washington, build community ties while attending school and remain active in the community that he grew up in.

Over the past two decades, he has helped support businesses, organizations and individuals throughout Southwest Washington and Northwest Oregon, contributing to economic growth and community development across the region.

While attending WSU Vancouver, Cox was involved in campus leadership. He served as vice president and chief financial officer of the Associated Students of WSU Vancouver, worked in admissions and represented students on university committees.

Cox says it was those experiences that helped shape his approach to leadership and service.

“Leadership is not about authority or position but about service, stewardship and creating opportunities for others to succeed,” Cox said while reflecting on his time at WSU.

Throughout his career, Cox has remained committed to community service. He has served on numerous boards and advisory groups, including the Washougal Schools Foundation, Camas-Washougal Chamber of Commerce, Community Bankers of Washington and Identity Clark County. He has worked with educational institutions and nonprofit organizations to expand opportunities for students and strengthen local communities.

Cox also maintains strong ties to WSU Vancouver through alumni engagement, mentoring students, speaking at university events and sharing his expertise with future business leaders.

“Dan has never forgotten the role WSU Vancouver played in his journey, and he continues to give back in meaningful ways,” said Melissa Bassett senior director of development and alumni relations. “Whether mentoring students, supporting university initiatives or serving our broader community, he leads with generosity, integrity and a genuine commitment to helping others succeed. We are proud to recognize him with this year's Notable Alumni Award.

Colleagues and nominators describe Cox as a collaborative leader who invests in people, educational opportunities and community well-being. His career reflects a commitment to integrity, lifelong learning and service, and inspiring future generations of students and leaders – qualities that distinguish recipients of the Notable Alumni Award and demonstrate the lasting impact of a WSU Vancouver education.
