Salvador Jaime Guillen Contreras Sentenced To 75 Months In Prison Following Deadly Crash (Photo) - 10/20/26

HILLSBORO, Ore- On October 16, 2026, Salvador Jaime Guillen Contreras pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide and was sentenced to 75 months in prison by Washington County Circuit Court Judge Kathleen Proctor. Deputy District Attorney Alicia Gerten prosecuted this case.

On June 23, 2026, the defendant was driving at a high rate of speed without a valid driver's license when he ran a red light before he hit and killed a cyclist who was crossing the intersection in the crosswalk. The victim, Connor Navarro, was just 19 years old.

The Washington County Crash Analysis and Reconstruction Team (CART) investigated the incident. The posted speed limit in the area is 40 miles per hour. However, investigators determined the defendant was driving 64 miles per hour when he struck the victim. They also confirmed that the traffic signal was red for approximately six seconds when the defendant entered the intersection. An analysis of his phone revealed that the defendant was scrolling social media and taking screenshots just seconds before the deadly crash. Multiple witnesses on scene confirmed the defendant was speeding and driving erratically prior to the crash.

The Washington County District Attorney’s Office acknowledges the work of CART investigators on this case.

In addition to his prison sentence, Judge Proctor also imposed a lifetime revocation of the defendant’s driver’s license and ordered him to serve three years of post-prison supervision following his release. The defendant will be transferred to the Oregon Department of Corrections to serve his sentence.
