Vancouver Police Officer who discharged weapon during pursuit identified - 02/07/19

Vancouver, Wash. – On February 5, 2019, Vancouver Police were assisting the Kelso Police Department with the apprehension of a homicide suspect. A Vancouver Police Officer located the suspect vehicle in Vancouver and attempted a traffic stop. The suspect vehicle fled and a pursuit ensued, which continued into Portland, Oregon. During the pursuit, the officer discharged his firearm. The officer was treated for non-life threatening injuries and has since been released from medical care. 

The involved officer is Officer James Porter, 28.

Officer Porter was hired by the Vancouver Police Department in March 2016. He is assigned to West Precinct Patrol.

Following standard department protocol, he is on critical incident leave.

The officer involved shooting investigation will be handled by the Portland Police Bureau.
