Community Baby Shower Aims To Support Local Families Facing Diaper Need - 04/01/26

(Salem, Ore.)  April 1, 2026 -The cost of caring for a newborn continues to rise, and for many families, one essential item remains out of reach: diapers. Today, experts estimate that infants require 6 to 12 diapers per day, totaling up to 3,500 diapers in the first year alone. At an average cost of $80 to $100 per month, diapers are a significant and often overlooked financial burden for families already struggling to make ends meet.

To help address this growing need, the Rotary E-Club of the Willamette Valley and the South Salem Rotary Foundation will host a “Community Baby Shower” donation drive on Saturday, April 18, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Willamette Health Council, 1701 Liberty St. SE in Salem.

The community is invited to “shower” local families with essential baby items. The greatest need is for disposable diapers, but organizers are also collecting new or handmade clothing, blankets and quilts, bottles, wipes, books, toys, and personal care items for newborns.

All donations will be distributed through partner agencies serving families in crisis, ensuring items reach those who need them most.

“Something as basic as diapers can become a major source of stress for parents,” said event organizer Marcy Crenshaw. “This is a simple, tangible way our community can step in and support families during one of life’s most vulnerable times.”

Financial contributions are also welcome and can be made the day of the event via credit card or PayPal, or online at rotaryeclubwillamettevalley.org. Checks may be mailed to:
South Salem Rotary Foundation
c/o Marcy Crenshaw
1625 Snow Peak Ct
Stayton, OR 97383

For more information or to arrange donation pickup in advance, contact Marcy Crenshaw at (503) 507-4770.

The Rotary E-Club of the Willamette Valley meets virtually each Tuesday. For membership information or to attend as a guest, visit rotaryeclubwillamettevalley.org.
