Salem City Club Hosts Salem Mayor-Elect Chris Hoy and Chamber CEO Tom Hoffert to Examine City's Community Capital Improvements Bond That Appears on this November's Ballot (Photo) - 11/03/22

Salem, OR,  (Nov. 3, 2022) - On Fri., Nov. 4 at 12:00 p.m., PST at the Willamette Heritage Center, the Salem City Club hosts Salem Mayor-Elect Chris Hoy and Chamber CEO Tom Hoffert to Examine City’s Community Capital Improvements Bond That Appears on this November’s Ballot

The proposed bond measure was designed for use in improving streets, fire equipment, parks, affordable housing, libraries, technology and public safety without increasing the City's property tax rate. Several previous bond measures will be retired and removed from the tax rolls over the next decade, providing up to $300 million to invest – supposedly without increasing tax rates.

Support for the measure seems to span the political spectrum with progressives, councilors and business groups backing the bond. According to a Statesman Journal news story, there is no formal opposition to the measure, but some residents have voiced their concerns about how the funds will be distributed and whether it would prioritize revitalizing lower-income areas in the city.
