Salem Family YMCA Childcare Available (Photo) - 09/10/20

The Salem Family YMCA has opened several childcare locations in schools in the mid-valley. The Y is now accepting enrollments in the program.

“We’ve always been a big provider of childcare in this community,” said Salem Family YMCA CEO Tim Sinatra. “It means a lot to us to be able to offer these services. Parents working inside and outside the home are juggling a lot right now, so it feels good to be able to help lift that burden.”

The YMCA is one of the biggest childcare providers in the state. The Y has been providing this service for over 100 years.

According to Sinatra, Y childcare focuses on four key areas: safety, meeting essential needs, academic support, and their core program (healthy living, social responsibilities, and youth development).

The Y is following all Covid-19 health and safety protocols and standards set by the Oregon Health Authority, the Early Learning Division, and the CDC. The YMCA trains all staff to meet these requirements and best practices.

To sign up for childcare, call (503) 399-2788 or email ffisher@theyonline.org.

About the YMCA: The Y originally opened on the south side of State Street in May of 1892, but quickly grew and needed expansion. It moved to the Court/Cottage location in 1926 and the Youth Development addition was completed in 1956. The Y has continually provided for the youth of Salem childcare to basic health and fitness programs. The Y serves over 600 of Salem’s children every day at 22 different sites. It also provides for over 5,000 of its member’s health and fitness needs at its downtown location.
