Masonry Grill Announced as the First Tenant in 120 Commercial St. Building (Photo) - 07/09/19

Salem, OR (July 9, 2019) - The newly renovated 120 Commercial Building (formerly the Spaghetti Warehouse) announced its first tenant July 8. Scheduled to open this fall, Masonry Grill will join an ever-growing downtown Salem food and drink scene.

“Starting Masonry Grill has been a dream of ours,” said owner Melissa Mason. “We believe that our exceptional food and service we will be a strong contributor to the energy of downtown Salem.”

The building owner, Scott Chernoff of Cumberland Holdings, ensured that great efforts had been taken to preserve the historical charm of the property, which was once a livery stable. The building has three leasable spaces available. Since beginning work on the property in early 2018, staircases, doors and windows have been added. An elevator is currently being installed.

“We're pleased to celebrate the unveiling of the renovation of 120 Commercial. Our vision was to create a dynamic, mixed-use project, to preserve historic elements and to upgrade building systems with modern amenities," said Chernoff. "The addition of Masonry Grill will be a signature establishment in downtown Salem."

Masonry Grill is slated to open in the fall. Mason began her business career with Northrop Grumman, a Fortune 100 company, where she focused on business management and development, overseeing a multimillion-dollar budget. She is currently a co-owner of Tangled Ends Hair Academy and Salon 124.

Her chef, Samuel Woodward, is a graduation of the Western Culinary Institute with an Associate of Applied Science in Culinary Arts. He has 26 years of experience in restaurant operations.

About 120 Commercial Street: The 120 Commercial Street Building is thought to have been constructed around the same time as the Reed Opera House (1870). The first tenant to occupy the two-story building was thought to be Durbin’s Livery, a stable yard. The entire building is approximately 14,000 square feet.
