Salem City Club Program - Evidenced Based Medicine: Weighing the Evidence for Effective Health Care (Photo) - 01/07/19

Salem City Club, a biweekly gathering of more than 100 members, will meet January 11 at the Willamette Heritage Center to discuss new trends in the health care industry.

The speaker, Dr. Vinay Prasad M.D. Ph.D., will discuss the growing need for evidence of effectiveness in common health care therapies. Due to the cost of health care and its increased scrutiny, evidence of effectiveness and how it is established is becoming more available to providers and the public. Dr. Prasad will explain why a provider’s advice is not always the best option.

A hematologist-oncologist and associate professor of medicine at Oregon Health and Science University, Dr. Prasad is known nationally for his research on evidence-based medicine, bias, public health and preventative medicine. A graduate of the University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of Medicine, he was awarded the Chairman’s Award in Internal Medicine.

The meeting will take place Friday, Jan. 11, at 12 p.m. at the Willamette Heritage Center at 1313 Mill Street St. SE. Members pay $20 and non-members pay $10 without lunch or $30 with lunch. Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. Register online at SalemCityClub.com.
