News Release
Outbuilding fire extinguished before it spreads to downtown Vancouver restaurant - 01/10/22

At 4:30 on the morning of January 10th, crews from the Vancouver Fire Department were dispatched to a reported outbuilding fire at 111 SE Columbia Way next to Who Song & Larry’s restaurant. The first arriving unit, which had just cleared from a fire alarm in another downtown building, arrived just over two minutes after dispatch and found a ten foot by ten foot shed fully engulfed in flame. They also reported a storage rack holding approximately ten five-gallon propane tanks next to the shed was under direct flame impingement. One of the tanks had started venting propane due to being over-pressurized by the heat. The flaming shed’s proximity threatened both the restaurant and an adjacent small outbuilding. A hose line was quickly deployed to extinguish the fire and cool the propane tanks and adjacent buildings. The fire was put out before it could spread to the other structures. Crews remained on scene for approximately 90 minutes to extinguish all hotspots and await an investigator. A total of 12 firefighters on four apparatus were dispatched to the event. No firefighter injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Vancouver Fire Marshall’s office.
