Top 10 Free Financial Resources for Individuals, Families & Youth - 04/28/21

As National Financial Literacy Month comes to a close, here is a round-up of 10 free, local, financial resources and coaching available in Oregon and Washington for nearly every age and situation.

“It is important to access financial coaching and resources at various ages and stages of life to help all people reach their financial goals,” said Umpqua Bank’s Brenden, VP, Community Development Officer.

Financial coaching proves just as important as access to financial education and information. One recent study sheds light on the power of financial coaching, pointing out that even a single session can make a positive difference in advancing one’s financial progress, according to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Financial Information & Coaching Resources

  • NeighborWorks Umpqua – provides a variety of resources to help people achieve stability through housing and financial security, including one-on-one financial coaching.
  • Bureau of Consumer Protection - tips and advice for consumers, businesses and military consumers.  
  • AARP informs, engages and advocates for practical solutions to help people attain financial and health security.
  • Sound Outreach – assists Pierce and South King County residents experiencing low and/or fixed-incomes build financial security through financial coaching, job training, and other services.
  • SNAP Financial Access – Spokane’s SNAP Financial Access provides financial empowerment workshops help deepen understanding of money, debt, and credit.
  • Money Smart Week – tools and resources to assist in financial education.

Youth Financial Education Resources

  • Financial Beginnings Oregon & Washington has a virtual speaker series with live and recorded webinars on a variety of topics.
  • Banzai is an interactive, award-winning course that has taught millions of students real-world finance.
  • Junior Achievement provides hands-on skills to equip young people for their future success.
  • Oregon Division of Financial Regulation protects Oregonians’ access to fair products and services through education, regulation, and consumer assistance, and has a team of consumer advocates available to help, free of charge.
