US Army To Recognize Guam Recruiting Company For Recruiting Achievements In 2022 -07/19/22
PORTLAND, Ore. — The U.S. Army Recruiting Command (USAREC), Portland Battalion, Guam Recruiting Company is being recognized by the Army Chief of Staff in Washington, D.C., July 21, as a result of their recruiting efforts for Fiscal Year 2022.
U.S. Army Chief of Staff, General James C. McConville is scheduled to host a recognition ceremony at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. McConville is the highest ranking officer assigned to serve in the Department of the Army, the principal military advisor, and a deputy to the Secretary of the Army.
This is the second year in a row that Guam Company achieved this recognition. The company currently ranks #2 in all of the USAREC, recruiting potential applicants to the U.S. Army Active Duty and Reserves.
Representatives from Guam Recruiting Company’s leadership will also take part in a visit to the National Army Museum and tour of the Pentagon and White House. Guam’s recruiting leadership has also been chosen to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery.
U.S. Army Capt. Maria B. Bais, a native of Guam, is from the village of Agat, and is the first female commander for the Guam Recruiting Company. She will be accompanied by First Sergeant Jason H. Osterson, who serves as the Company’s enlisted leader. Guam Company oversees U.S. Army recruiting efforts for the entire pacific region including the Northern Mariana Islands, Micronesia, American Samoa, Japan, and Korea.
July 21 also marks Guam Liberation Day, when the United States liberated the island (Chamorro’s - People of Guam) from the Japanese during World War II. This year is the 78th anniversary of this significant celebration.
Recently, the U.S. Army raised its enlistment bonus to $50,000 for qualified individuals who sign for a six-year active duty assignment. For some high priority specialties, the Army is offering career-based incentives that range from $1,000 up to $40,000.
Aside from the career-based bonuses, there are “quick ship” bonuses for those who are prepared to head to Basic Combat Training within 90 days of up to $25,000. As part of the Army Civilian Acquired Skills Program, foreign language skills can be worth up to $40,000 for certain career paths.
The Army also has a two-year enlistment option for 84 different career fields, ranging from infantry and combat engineers to paralegals and aviation operations specialists. Those who choose the two-year plan will serve two years full-time on active duty and then two years in the Army Reserve. Officials say this shorter enlistment opportunity allows individuals the ability to see if the Army is a good fit for them without immediately committing to a four- or six-year enlistment.
