Oregon Man on State Supervision Arrested for Possessing Child Sexual Abuse Material After Arriving at Portland International Airport

PORTLAND, Ore.— U.S. Attorney Scott E. Bradford announced today that Alec Joseph Adams, 30, of Oregon, has been charged by criminal complaint with possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) after federal agents allegedly discovered illicit images and videos on his cell phone during an inspection at Portland International Airport.

“Every image and video depicting child sexual abuse represents a real child victim,” said U.S. Attorney Scott E. Bradford. “The Department of Justice remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting children from exploitation and aggressively prosecuting individuals who possess, produce, or distribute child sexual abuse material.”

According to court documents, on Oct. 28, 2026, Adams arrived at Portland International Airport on a flight from Reykjavik, Iceland. During a customs inspection, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers learned that Adams was serving a term of probation in Lincoln County, Oregon, following convictions for luring a child and online sexual corruption of a child.

Court documents allege that during a basic media examination of Adams' cellphone, Customs and Border Protection officers discovered suspected child sexual abuse material. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents were notified and conducted a preliminary review of the device.

According to an affidavit filed in support of the criminal complaint, investigators observed multiple images and video thumbnails depicting nude prepubescent and pubescent children engaged in sexually explicit conduct in a hidden folder on Adams' phone.

Federal investigators subsequently obtained a search warrant for the device. During a more extensive review, agents allegedly located additional videos depicting the sexual abuse of young children. Court documents describe videos showing prepubescent children engaged in sexually explicit conduct with adults.

Adams has been charged with one count of possession of child pornography, which is punishable by up to 20 years in federal prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and a lifetime term of supervised release.

The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The Special Prosecutions Unit for the District of Oregon is prosecuting the case.

A criminal complaint is only an allegation of criminal conduct, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
