UCCS Joins Global Olympic Studies And Research Centres Network, Launches New Olympic Sport Research Lab - 09/23/26

New UCCS Olympic Sport Research Lab will advance Olympic sport research, education and community engagement from the heart of Olympic City USA

 

The UCCS Olympic Sport Research Lab has been recognized by the IOC Olympic Studies Centre as a member of the global Olympic Studies and Research Centres network, placing UCCS among a select group of universities worldwide dedicated to advancing scholarship and education related to the Olympic Movement. Through the UCCS Olympic Sport Research Lab, UCCS becomes one of only four universities in the United States represented in the global network.

 

“UCCS has an extraordinary opportunity to contribute to Olympic sport scholarship from a place where the Olympic Movement is part of the fabric of the community in Olympic City USA,” said Dr. Bri Newland, Interim Dean of the UCCS College of Business.

 

The program's location in Colorado Springs, Olympic City USA, provides a distinctive setting for Olympic sport education. Students have access to hands-on learning opportunities connected to the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee, National Governing Bodies of Olympic and Paralympic sport and numerous youth and elite sporting events.

 

Building on the designation, the UCCS Olympic Sport Research Lab will be established and housed within the Sport Management Program in the College of Business. The Lab will bring together research, education, and community engagement to deepen understanding of Olympic and international sport while creating new opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students.

 

“The Lab gives us a platform to bring students, researchers and members of the Olympic and Paralympic community together to ask important questions about where sport is heading and how it can be governed, managed and developed responsibly.
