School Property Repeatedly Burglarized, Police Working to ID Suspect - 10/03/24

Investigators want to identify a man who they believe has burglarized and attempted to burglarize a school building several times, dating back more than a year.

On several occasions, a man has been caught on surveillance video targeting the Tigard-Tualatin School District Resource Wing on SW Murdock Street, which houses the Caring Closet (clothing for students in need), Family Resource Center and Tigard-Tualatin Virtual Academy.

Specifically, the following reports have been made to Tigard Police:

  • On 9/24/24 between 3:15 – 5:30AM a man broke a window, crawled inside the building and stole clothing and shoes.
  • On 9/10/24 someone broke a window on a porch.
  • On 8/5/24 at 3:20AM a man broke into the building, rummaged through offices and damaged cabinets, then stole various items, including two laptops. In this case, the suspect left the stolen property nearby and it was recovered before the suspect could return.
  • On 12/28/23 a man broke into the building and stole speakers.
  • On 8/9/23 at 4:45AM someone broke a window and items inside were moved around, but it’s unclear whether anything was stolen.

The Tigard-Tualatin School District has added additional security measures, including more motion detectors and other deterrents in an effort to stop this from happening in the future.

The Tigard Police department is sharing surveillance video of the man and the car he may be associated with. If you recognize this man or have any information that can help, please email tips@tigard-or.gov or call 503-718-COPS. You can remain anonymous.

Man Arrested for Assaulting a Stranger - 10/03/24

A man has been arrested and charged with assault after police believe he randomly attacked a stranger at a grocery store.

On September 19, 2024, at 11:25AM Tigard Police officers were dispatched to the Fred Meyer on SW 72nd Avenue & Pacific Highway (99W) for an assault call. An employee called 911 to report a customer was leaving the store when a man suddenly punched her twice in the head.

Officers learned the victim, a 61-year-old woman who lives in Tigard, did not know the man who assaulted her. She went to the hospital for an evaluation and was released.

Meanwhile, responding officers conducted a K-9 track to try and find the suspect, who had walked away from the scene, but he was not immediately found. In the course of the investigation, he was identified as Isaiah Marquis, age 25, from Tigard.

Today, October 3, 2024, Marquis turned himself in to the Tigard Police Department and he was arrested by detectives on a charge of assault IV.  Any potential motive for this attack remains unclear but will be part of the investigation and prosecution phase moving forward.

Man Charged with Manslaughter in Deadly Fentanyl Overdose - 09/25/24

A man has been charged with manslaughter in connection with a deadly fentanyl overdose in Tigard.

On September 12, 2024, officers were dispatched to an overdose at a motel in the 11400 block of SW Pacific Highway (99W). Witnesses, paramedics and officers tried life-saving measures, including deploying Narcan and initiating CPR, but the man was not responsive. He was taken to the hospital and sadly, he later died. He has been identified as Ryan Hackett, age 42.

In the course of the investigation, detectives identified Timothy Donovan, age 31, as a suspect in this case and he was safely arrested. On September 24, 2024, a Washington County grand jury indicted Donovan on charges of manslaughter in the second degree and unlawful delivery of a schedule II substance.

Investigations like these are complex, require quick action and rarely result in the ability to hold someone accountable for their role in a deadly drug overdose. We appreciate the work of our patrol officers and detectives in this case, as well as our partners at TVF&R and the Washington County District Attorney’s Office.

Retail Theft Mission Leads to 21 Arrests, Recovery of Merchandise, Replica Gun, Drugs (Photo) - 09/10/24

A retail theft mission held in Tigard led to nearly two dozen arrests, as well as the recovery of stolen merchandise, a replica gun and methamphetamine.

This marks the first mission held in Washington County since the Washington County District Attorney’s office was awarded a $1.5 million dollar federal grant to combat retail theft, allowing for law enforcement and prosecutors to engage in more joint retail theft missions. During these missions, detectives and patrol officers work directly with loss prevention employees inside stores to identify and interrupt criminal activity as its happening.

Held Friday, September 6, 2024, Tigard Police officers and detectives with TPD’s Commercial Crimes Unit (CCU) worked with loss prevention employees at stores in Tigard. During the event:

  • 21 people were arrested on a range of charges, including theft, possession of burglary tools, possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine and several outstanding felony/misdemeanor arrest warrants
  • Stolen merchandise worth roughly $1,700 was recovered
  • A realistic looking replica handgun that officers learned was an air soft gun was recovered from a juvenile who was arrested
  • One person led officers on a foot pursuit before being arrested

Officers also assisted with a suspicious package that turned out to be safe, and a reported strong-arm robbery that turned out to be a theft call during the mission.

We’d like to thank our partners at the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Hillsboro Police, Beaverton Police and the Washington County DA’s Office for their support during the mission.
