News Release
Man Charged with Manslaughter in Deadly Fentanyl Overdose - 09/25/24

A man has been charged with manslaughter in connection with a deadly fentanyl overdose in Tigard.

On September 12, 2024, officers were dispatched to an overdose at a motel in the 11400 block of SW Pacific Highway (99W). Witnesses, paramedics and officers tried life-saving measures, including deploying Narcan and initiating CPR, but the man was not responsive. He was taken to the hospital and sadly, he later died. He has been identified as Ryan Hackett, age 42.

In the course of the investigation, detectives identified Timothy Donovan, age 31, as a suspect in this case and he was safely arrested. On September 24, 2024, a Washington County grand jury indicted Donovan on charges of manslaughter in the second degree and unlawful delivery of a schedule II substance.

Investigations like these are complex, require quick action and rarely result in the ability to hold someone accountable for their role in a deadly drug overdose. We appreciate the work of our patrol officers and detectives in this case, as well as our partners at TVF&R and the Washington County District Attorney’s Office.
