Armed Man Safely Arrested After Several Hours (Photo) - 08/30/22

UPDATE 8/30/22: The man who was arrested is identified as Jacob Gorham, age 36, from Tigard.

After several hours, an armed man was safely taken into custody after officers responded to a disturbance with a weapon.

At 6:10 PM on August 26th Tigard Police responded to the Greenburg Apartments (9570 SW Greenburg Road) where a man armed with a gun threatened a woman in an apartment. The woman, and another witness, safely got out of the apartment on their own.

Police attempted to contact the armed man for several hours, including phone calls, text messages and loud hails, but the man did not respond. Out of an abundance of caution, residents in the immediate area were given a reverse 911 notification to shelter in place for their safety.

The Washington County Tactical Negotiations Team (TNT) and Crisis Negotiations Unit (CNU) responded to the scene, along with an officer on the Washington County Mental Health Response Team (MHRT).

At 12:30 AM on August 27th the man complied with orders to come outside, and he was safely taken into custody. He is being taken to the Washington County Jail, charged with first-degree attempted rape, unlawful use of a weapon and menacing. He is also being lodged on an outstanding warrant. His name will be released on Monday.

We’d like to thank the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Beaverton Police, Hillsboro Police, Sherwood Police and King City Police for their assistance at the scene. We’d also like to thank Tualatin Police for taking calls in Tigard while officers responded to this event.
