Barn Fire In Sherwood Successfully Contained (Photo) - 11/06/26
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sherwood, Ore. — Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue crews responded this evening to reports of a large barn fire in the 24000 block of SW Labrousse Road in Sherwood.
The fire was reported at 6:32 p.m. by residents at the property, who reported that a large barn was fully involved in fire and threatening nearby structures.
Arriving firefighters found a large metal-clad pole barn with heavy fire venting through the roof and dense smoke coming from multiple openings. Crews quickly determined the building was unsafe to enter and transitioned to a defensive fire attack from the exterior.
Firefighting operations were complicated by the rural location of the property, which does not have access to fire hydrants. All water used to fight the fire had to be transported to the scene by TVF&R water tenders.
Firefighters focused their initial efforts on containing the fire to the building of origin while protecting nearby structures and property. Despite significant fire conditions, crews were successful in preventing the fire from spreading to surrounding buildings.
Additional hazards included ammunition exploding inside the structure, welding equipment within the fire area, and a large propane tank located in close proximity to the burning building. Crews worked carefully around these hazards while continuing defensive suppression operations.
The fire was brought under control at approximately 7:26 p.m. Firefighters remained on scene afterward extinguishing hot spots and completing overhaul operations.
Preliminary findings indicate the fire originated from a chimney fire associated with a wood stove inside the building.
TVF&R recommends that chimneys and wood-burning appliance systems be professionally cleaned and inspected annually to help reduce the risk of chimney fires and related structure fires.
TVF&R was assisted on scene by AMR.
