Two People Hospitalized After Tigard House Fire (Photo)

Two people were taken to the hospital after a house fire early Wednesday morning in Tigard that destroyed a home.
Crews were dispatched shortly before 2 a.m. to a reported house fire at 15180 Southwest Sunrise Lane. Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire coming from multiple sides of the house.
Two people were injured, including one who suffered burns and another who jumped from a balcony to escape the flames. Both were treated by TVF&R paramedics and transported to the hospital for further care. The three other occupants of the home evacuated unharmed.
Due to the heavy fire conditions, firefighters deployed hose lines to all sides of the structure to attack the fire from the outside. As the fire progressed, portions of the home’s walls and ceilings collapsed, creating additional hazards for crews. Despite heavy fire involvement and challenges with water supply, crews methodically brought the fire under control. With only one fire hydrant available, firefighters carefully managed the water supply while working to bring the fire under control and protect nearby trees and shrubs from catching fire.
The fire destroyed the home, and the family has made alternate living arrangements.
The fire also resulted in the loss of several family pets. One of the family’s dogs alerted the homeowners to the flames but is believed to have died in the fire. A second dog escaped safely. The family’s pet birds are also presumed to have died.
Approximately 25 emergency response apparatus assisted at the scene. TVF&R was assisted by American Medical Response, the Tigard Police Department, Northwest Natural and Portland General Electric.
