Joint Specialty Team Training and Water Safety Insights

Please join us this Monday, August 9, between 2 and 4 p.m. to observe a joint training between our Technical Rescue Team and Water Rescue Team at High Rocks Park. Members of our Water Rescue Team will also be available to provide interviews on water safety and upcoming high temperatures. Temperatures are forecasted to reach triple digits again next week, which means hundreds of people will head to local waterways to beat the heat. This often leads to an increase in calls for service for our Water Rescue Team.

That is why Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue’s specialty teams will be training on the Clackamas River in preparation for such an emergency incident. During this training, the teams will tether a rescuer above a fast-moving current to access and retrieve a “victim” who is trapped on the waterway in a challenging location. It requires both teams working together to safely access and rescue an individual in distress.

  • TVF&R’s Water Rescue Team responds to water emergencies, including boaters in distress and trapped swimmers. The Water Rescue Team is part of the Regional Water Rescue Consortium Team consisting of several fire departments and sheriff offices that protect the waterways in Washington, Clackamas, Yamhill, and Multnomah counties. Members maintain Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) marine awareness, deckhand, boat operator, rescue boat operator, and advanced surface and swift-water technician certifications.
  • TVF&R’s Technical Rescue Team specializes in trench and confined space rescues, vehicle entrapment, rope rescue, and building collapse. The team is trained at the technician level in heavy vehicle and machinery extrication, high-angle rope rescue, confined space rescue, trench rescue, and structural collapse rescue.
