Tigard-Tualatin School District To Close Schools Through March 30, 2020 -03/12/20

Tigard, OR. -- In response to the COVID19 public health crisis, the Tigard-Tualatin School District (TTSD) Board of Directors voted unanimously to close all schools in the district, effective immediately. Schools will be closed starting tomorrow and they will reopen on March 30 for licensed staff. Students and all school staff will return to classes on Tuesday, March 31, as previously scheduled. At this time, the Hibbard District Office, including our operations and facilities departments will remain open.

All extracurricular activities, sports, and other programming will be suspended until March 30. TTSD will continue to monitor the situation closely with guidance from the Oregon Health Authority and Washington County Public Health. Any new information will be communicated to students, parents, and community members when it is available.

“We understand the hardship this decision will cause for many of our families,” said Superintendent Dr. Sue Rieke-Smith. “Our Board leads this decision with the health and safety of our staff, students and their families as our top priority.”

TTSD schools will be open between 8 AM and 3 PM, Friday, March 13, 2020 for students to pick up their digital devices (grades 6 through 12) and other personal belongings. The District encourages students and their families to stay engaged academically during this time off. We encourage parents to read with their pre-K and elementary school children. All middle and high school students have access to take-home computers to use for academic work. District staff will continue to work to develop remote learning options in the future. 

TTSD is committed to providing meals for our students during this break. Tualatin Elementary and Metzger Elementary Schools will serve grab-and-go meals to include serving breakfast from 8:00 - 8:30 AM and lunch from 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM for district students PreK through 12th grade. There will be no dining inside the schools. 

As with any closure, please stay up to date with the district. School closure updates will be communicated via the Flash Alert system, the TTSD website, social media and mobile app.
