Release date: August 29, 2024
Location: Sunriver Airport, 57200 River Road
On August 29th, shortly after 12:30 pm, the Sunriver Police Department responded to an aircraft emergency at the Sunriver Airport. A 2007 Cessna Citation Mustang jet was reported to have landed without landing gear down, causing the plane to skid to a stop. A witness reported seeing flames and smoke.
Upon arrival, the Sunriver Police Department and Sunriver Fire Department did not locate any flames or smoke coming from the plane. The plane did not have its landing gear deployed prior to landing on the runway, causing the plane to land on its belly. The pilot shut off the fuel to the engine to prevent a fuel leak or fire. The pilot, his passenger, and their dog were uninjured.
As of approximately 3:00 pm, Sunriver airport runway 1836 is still closed as the pilot and airport employees work to get the airplane removed.
Sunriver Police notified the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and Federal Aviation Association (FAA). The Sunriver Police Department would like to thank the Sunriver Fire Department, Sunriver Airport, and their employees for their assistance.
