Silverton Fire District' Longest Serving Volunteer Firefighter Dies; Leaves A Legacy (Photo) - 01/10/18

It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that Silverton Fire District announces the passing of Life member and Tender Division Captain Bob Klaus. Bob passed away Saturday January 6, 2018 after a battle with brain cancer diagnosed in late 2016. Bob started his service with the Silverton Volunteer Fire Department in 1962 and rose through the ranks to become the Tender Division Captain. He served the community with distinction for 55 years. Bob was the longest serving volunteer in the history in the Silverton Fire District; a record that will not soon be broken. Captain Klaus will be remembered as a person who committed his life to serving the public. Up until he fell ill, day or night Bob could be counted on to help with fires, training or just hanging out at the station talking about politics and the current events and keeping the younger "kids" in line. He will be sorely missed. Rest in peace Bob. A memorial service will be held this Saturday January 13th starting at 2:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church in Silverton, 203 West Main Street. Fire Agencies that plan to attend are requested to please RSVP by Friday January 12 at noon to Lt. Rick Heuchert rickheuchert@silvertonfire.com or 503-873-5328 See attached photos. ####
