FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Silver Key Senior Services to open computer center

Colorado Springs, Colorado – Silver Key Senior Services is excited to announce the opening of a Digital Service Center. The grand opening for the new computer center will be Oct. 6 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the RNR Family Foundation Meeting Room at 1655 S. Murray Blvd on the south side of the campus near the Murray Connections Café. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. This will be an opportunity for the public to see the new space, ask questions, and sign up for classes.

Silver Key is one of seven non-profit organizations in Colorado picked to receive grant funds to bridge the digital divide in our community. Silver Key has partnered with AARP and its “Senior Planet” program to bring the latest digital skills, courses, workshops, and training to our Senior community. Computer courses and workshops will be held in person at the new Digital Service Center.

Some of the courses to be offered include:

  • Computer Basics (English and Spanish classes)
  • Chrome Essentials
  • Smartphone and tablet-based curriculum.
  • Workshops and more!

The first course in the center will begin on Oct. 10.

Studies show that seniors who use technology feel more connected to others, are better engaged in the community and world around them and are more informed about current events. Here are more ways that technology use benefits seniors: 1. Personal safety 2. Keeping in touch with loved ones 3. Improving mental and physical well-being 4. Improved social wellness 5. Staying informed of current news.

Open lab hours at the Digital Service Center will be Monday and Wednesday, 10 a.m. to noon and Fridays from 11 a.m. to noon. Computer Basics for Older Adults in English is Tuesday and Thursday at 1 p.m. and then in Spanish on Mondays and Wednesdays at 1 p.m.
